In 2024, the Bellows Falls Village Corporation received grant funding through the Department of Public Service for an Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant. With the funding award of $100,000, The Bellows Falls Police Department purchased an EV Ford Lightning and staff hired a project team of consultants from Emergent Urban Concepts, RUHL TecDesign and SHARC Energy to perform an Bellows Falls Area Wide Sustainability Plan and Feasibility Study on Geothermal.
This plan and study builds upon previous studies from 1982 for the Bellows Falls District Heating System and 2009 study by VHB Pioneer for the Bellows Falls Groundwater Geothermal Project.
Working closely with Debbie New of Vermont Community Thermal Networks and Jared Rodriguez from Emergent Urban Systems, Town Staff and a steering committee made up of landowners, property owners, business leaders, residents and Town officials have identified resources and ideal locations for a thermal energy network in Downtown Bellows Falls.
